Boo Black and Rachel Bleu

About

The author, Rebecca Wells Phillips, enjoys writing poetry, LGBTQ+ adult fiction (Butterfly Blossoms and Dragonfly Passion by Rachel Bleu), short stories (Homelessness Again, It’s Only a Dream, and Divine Intervention), memoirs (Hating Self and Loving Self by Boo Black), and historical nonfiction (Hurricane Helene Resiliency After the Storm Part One). She is also writing Lift Our Voice: Abuse Survivors Speak Their Truth, which will be released in November 2026.

Born in a small town in Tennessee, Rebecca waited until she had moved to Asheville, North Carolina, to publish her first book, Hating Self by Boo Black (November 2023). Butterfly Blossoms by Rachel Bleu was released on September 25, 2024, just two days before Hurricane Helene decimated Western North Carolina with flooding and mudslides. That is when she decided to share survivor stories in Hurricane Helene Resiliency After the Storm Part One. Rebecca utilized her knowledge of broadcast journalism and English from Carson-Newman University to convey the raw emotions of those who lived through a natural disaster.

Her pen name, Boo Black, emphasizes that people are not alone, that the burdens they carry are meant to help others, and that in life, we should strive to turn our pain into purpose. The author aims to educate, entertain, and change the world around her.
